My "Coding" Experience

February for me, has not been just about love but that of missed reaction; pain, opportunity and the stress…I will just want to share the interesting part. Somewhere in January, a very good friend (name withheld) sponsored me to undergo a month’s course in website design. He believed in me and saw my relentlessness drive towards my dream. To that friend, I say THANK YOU. Am very grateful for all the confidence reposed in me. God bless you.

Now to my experience on website design. Alexander Adu-Lartey facilitated this course at the BSystems institute, (an independent company established to provide high quality certification, consultancy and training in Business Analysis, IT Management, Oracle to mention but a few)  came up three days in a week. To undergo this course, all one needed was to have basic computer knowledge and a laptop. Trust me there was never a dull moment. Alex came fully prepared and always had something new. He didn’t have the “I know it all” attitude when teaching. He was in for sharing of ideas, contributions and criticisms.  He had this extraordinary patience where he made sure everyone had grasped what he taught (every teacher needs that you know).

During the course I studied what goes on in making a simple website. You know apart from what you see on a website, there are various different tags and coding which actually brings out what we see on the page. That was the first time I knew of (basic) html codes which are used in building websites. visit www.htmldog.com/reference/htmltags/ to know more about tags

Initially we coded manually until we got Adobe Dreamweaver C6 downloaded! (you should see the grin on my face) that was so cool; less stress and you didn’t have to refer because it was just on point. You know in this software I learnt about the CSS. This style sheet actually integrates the design of the web page from the scratch; header through to the navigation, the slides, the content or body all the way to the footer.

Now I can understand basic HTML and CSS, quickly build web pages,  styling content properly using CSS, build website templates, integrate widgets – Facebook comments, Newsfeed, Twitter and popular social media widgets and publish and test websites. I learnt all these and more.
There we times that we were not able to execute plans on some day….your guess is as good as mine. “Dumso duumso” – blackout. Unfortunately for us, the generator in the building got faulty. Too bad but we managed to improvise.

Another thing that I felt so lazy doing was to carry my laptop to class…you can imagine the stress right?
It was a great experience I must say. Participants were very interactive and were ready to share ideas.  Get ready as I welcome you to a whole new world on my upcoming website. I am going to keep you updated. The next Website Design Course will be in a few months and for update about the next edition, training resource for educational purposes and more visit www.adu-lartey.com
