Nature and Wildlife Photography

Photography is unique in its ability to reveal nature’s hidden secrets, illustrating relationships that might otherwise be missed. Recent developments in camera and film technology within the bounds of any competent photographer, from sweeping panoramas taken in African game reserves to minute details seen under the laboratory microscope. The technical thus of obtaining dramatic, high quality images no longer depend on the ownership of expensive specialized equipment.

Nature Photography cannot be undertaken casually. There is place for the photographer who does not already have a keen interest in wildlife and a sound knowledge of the subject.

Garden Atmosphere


It is not easy to take a single shot that captures the overall atmosphere of any garden. The sheer quality and diversity of the plants growing there and the great variety and range .of garden designs only make the task more difficult. Since you cannot expect to photograph everything, you must be selective in your choice of subject. But the choice of subject is not only consideration when you are trying to record the spirit of the garden and capture its quintessential feel. Probably, the most compelling influence on a garden’s atmosphere is light.

Most people are familiar with the peace and serenity that are so typical of a still summers evening when golden sunlight filters through the trees and long shadows stretch across the lawn.  Light is a vital elements in pictures that succeeded in conveying the characteristics atmosphere of a garden, and it is the photographers ability to recognize this essential ingredient and his sensitivity in appreciating the subtleties of natural light that leads on an expressive picture.

The impact of flowers

Flowers and shrubs are the most important element in any garden design and deservedly attract attention. There are many ways to photograph flowers; they can be shot by individual blooms in a manner similar to that of traditional portraiture, arranged in a display of either formally or informally, in flower beds or borders or in the wild.

Naturally, if you are aiming for maximum impact in colour, shape and form, you should aim at perfect flower in full bloom but it’s also worth photographing them when they are fading, dried or even discarded – such images can be very striking. Close – up flower photography is most successful with a macro lens.
The mass of colour was displayed on a flower stalk such values offer a wealth of picture opportunities from perfect blooms carefully displayed to crushed flowers in the gutter.


Beautiful flower arrangements are a feature of weddings and they frequently make attractive and intimate flower studies.
