GARDEN OF EDEN

“Garden of Eden” resonates with where Adam and Eve first met. This time around, it’s a Zoo.!  Surprised? Well don’t be. Over the weekend, on Saturday, 17th I toured at this Zoo, thank God for good friends.

Garden of Eden was established some 5 years ago, when Mr. Appiah the owner of the Zoo, lived in Israel for over 36 years. During his stay in Israel, he shared with me that the youngest person to have died then was a 102 years. I looked surprised and asked him what influenced that.  He said the secret was that they lived with animals and it is true when animals and plants cohabit with humans it made them live longer.

However when he returned home (Ghana), he was motivated and decided to set up a zoo, that was what gave birth to “Garden of Eden”. Most of the animals that inhabit in Garden of Eden are from Israel, Belgium, Egypt and others including some local breeds.

African Civet Cat

Tiger Fish

In the zoo, you will see the African Civet cats; which are nocturnal animals(animals that are active at night), Diana Monkeys, Fully nurtured baboons, Fun tail doves, Nile Crocodile, Cat fish, Mallard ducks(these ducks don’t mingle with the local breeds), snakes, porcupine, tortoise, and the list goes on and on.  Most of the animals feed on meat and roughages (vegetables and fruits). There are also different types of trees such as Cinnamon, Moringa, and coconut trees.  Garden of Eden has other facilities like internet, restaurant, and fresh fruit juices.

This private zoo if fully licensed, normally visited by vertinary officers who check on the animals. The Zoo is open to schools, businesses and individuals.  Am sure you can satisfy your craving on a holiday or at your own free time, to see these wonderful gifts of nature.  Locate Garden of Eden , opposite Pentecost University out gate, Sowutuom – Accra. Some Photography Techniques

Linear Perspective
Perspective is an illusion that we are accustomed to accepting without question in photography. A three-dimensional image is convincingly represented on 2-dimensional film by making distant parts of the scene appear smaller than the nearer parts of the scene.

Linear perspective is the answer why telephone poles look smaller when they are further away from us in real world. Good photographers use this effect to their advantage to create pictures that show a lot of depth.
Where parallel lines such as railway tracks appear to converge as they recede into the distance is one of the most convincing forms of the visual deception characteristic of perspective.

Unlike draughtsman and painters, the photographer has no need to learn the skills of shaping perspective – the camera and its lenses see to that- but it is important to know how to use it. The convincing portrayal of three dimensions is, however, a most demanding aspect of photographic composition. Linear perspective is getting enhanced by using wide-angle rather than long lenses, as they tend to enlarge foreground detail in relation to distant objects.

The result of this is that parallel lines are seen to converge very sharply, so creating a strong illusion of great depth. You can further dramatize the effects by choosing scenes that contain obvious linear elements, both near and far, and by placing them so that they run obliquely from the edges of the frame. Planes and lines that feature regular patterns in texture, form or tone, will also give an added sense to realism through the device of linear perspective.

Mood of Isolation

Any strong photographic image should contain mood and atmosphere and the accomplished photographer should be able to recognize and exploit the picture elements that create them. Strength of mood does not necessarily mean drama, as in say; a picture of dark brooding castle walls silhouetted against a stormy sky.

Mood is an elusive abstract quality that is difficult to define, and you will have to rely on your intuitions to respond to it appropriately. In any case, you should aim to exclude elements that distract from or distort the mood. These pictures have a strong mood of isolation.

You can create such an impression in most environments by selecting elements that convey a sense of separateness. These might be compositional, such as the relative size of the subject in relation to the surroundings, or you might capture a gesture or expression that suggests sadness or less. The crucial point is to recognize the mood at atmosphere and then tune the composition to underline them strongly but subtly.

The Impact of Social Media On Business Development In Ghana

Yahoo, Google +, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram, Youtube to mention but a few are the various social media platforms that have emerged in the last four decades or so. They have moved from being just social media platforms to various places where people create and run business.

The introduction of businesses unto the New Media has paved way for numerous opportunities. Small businesses recognize the benefit of social media as a communication platform that facilitates two-way communication between a company and its stakeholders. A product, service or brand can be directly marketed to the consumer using social media. Such marketing amplifies messages that are conveyed by other product promotions, including website advertisements and press releases. Social Media has undoubtedly played a vital role in the development of most of these businesses; brands, products and services.

It will surprise you to know that some businesses have not clinched on New Media to enjoy the opportunities that it brings. We will however unearth the importance of Social Media to businesses, since the world has become a global village. Technology has helped solved some problems by just a “CLICK”

In the subsequent months I will feature businesses that have developed tremendously through social media. These brands will share with us their rise, challenges, experiences Social Media has presented and of course their expectations in the next few years.

Nature and Wildlife Photography

Photography is unique in its ability to reveal nature’s hidden secrets, illustrating relationships that might otherwise be missed. Recent developments in camera and film technology within the bounds of any competent photographer, from sweeping panoramas taken in African game reserves to minute details seen under the laboratory microscope. The technical thus of obtaining dramatic, high quality images no longer depend on the ownership of expensive specialized equipment.

Nature Photography cannot be undertaken casually. There is place for the photographer who does not already have a keen interest in wildlife and a sound knowledge of the subject.

Garden Atmosphere

It is not easy to take a single shot that captures the overall atmosphere of any garden. The sheer quality and diversity of the plants growing there and the great variety and range .of garden designs only make the task more difficult. Since you cannot expect to photograph everything, you must be selective in your choice of subject. But the choice of subject is not only consideration when you are trying to record the spirit of the garden and capture its quintessential feel. Probably, the most compelling influence on a garden’s atmosphere is light.

Most people are familiar with the peace and serenity that are so typical of a still summers evening when golden sunlight filters through the trees and long shadows stretch across the lawn.  Light is a vital elements in pictures that succeeded in conveying the characteristics atmosphere of a garden, and it is the photographers ability to recognize this essential ingredient and his sensitivity in appreciating the subtleties of natural light that leads on an expressive picture.

The impact of flowers

Flowers and shrubs are the most important element in any garden design and deservedly attract attention. There are many ways to photograph flowers; they can be shot by individual blooms in a manner similar to that of traditional portraiture, arranged in a display of either formally or informally, in flower beds or borders or in the wild.

Naturally, if you are aiming for maximum impact in colour, shape and form, you should aim at perfect flower in full bloom but it’s also worth photographing them when they are fading, dried or even discarded – such images can be very striking. Close – up flower photography is most successful with a macro lens.
The mass of colour was displayed on a flower stalk such values offer a wealth of picture opportunities from perfect blooms carefully displayed to crushed flowers in the gutter.

Beautiful flower arrangements are a feature of weddings and they frequently make attractive and intimate flower studies.

My "Coding" Experience

February for me, has not been just about love but that of missed reaction; pain, opportunity and the stress…I will just want to share the interesting part. Somewhere in January, a very good friend (name withheld) sponsored me to undergo a month’s course in website design. He believed in me and saw my relentlessness drive towards my dream. To that friend, I say THANK YOU. Am very grateful for all the confidence reposed in me. God bless you.

Now to my experience on website design. Alexander Adu-Lartey facilitated this course at the BSystems institute, (an independent company established to provide high quality certification, consultancy and training in Business Analysis, IT Management, Oracle to mention but a few)  came up three days in a week. To undergo this course, all one needed was to have basic computer knowledge and a laptop. Trust me there was never a dull moment. Alex came fully prepared and always had something new. He didn’t have the “I know it all” attitude when teaching. He was in for sharing of ideas, contributions and criticisms.  He had this extraordinary patience where he made sure everyone had grasped what he taught (every teacher needs that you know).

During the course I studied what goes on in making a simple website. You know apart from what you see on a website, there are various different tags and coding which actually brings out what we see on the page. That was the first time I knew of (basic) html codes which are used in building websites. visit www.htmldog.com/reference/htmltags/ to know more about tags

Initially we coded manually until we got Adobe Dreamweaver C6 downloaded! (you should see the grin on my face) that was so cool; less stress and you didn’t have to refer because it was just on point. You know in this software I learnt about the CSS. This style sheet actually integrates the design of the web page from the scratch; header through to the navigation, the slides, the content or body all the way to the footer.

Now I can understand basic HTML and CSS, quickly build web pages,  styling content properly using CSS, build website templates, integrate widgets – Facebook comments, Newsfeed, Twitter and popular social media widgets and publish and test websites. I learnt all these and more.
There we times that we were not able to execute plans on some day….your guess is as good as mine. “Dumso duumso” – blackout. Unfortunately for us, the generator in the building got faulty. Too bad but we managed to improvise.

Another thing that I felt so lazy doing was to carry my laptop to class…you can imagine the stress right?
It was a great experience I must say. Participants were very interactive and were ready to share ideas.  Get ready as I welcome you to a whole new world on my upcoming website. I am going to keep you updated. The next Website Design Course will be in a few months and for update about the next edition, training resource for educational purposes and more visit www.adu-lartey.com
